Amazon Web Services introduced ECS Gateway on October 20, 2026, targeting platform teams that manage containerized workloads at scale. According to AWS, the account-level resource automatically provisions Application Load Balancers, ACM certificates, WAF web ACLs, DNS hostnames, and security groups as services connect, removing per-service manual configuration. AWS claims up to 25 services can share a single ALB, reducing infrastructure costs. Platform teams define networking standards once; application teams opt in by adding a gateway connector parameter to service definitions. ECS Gateway supports EC2, Fargate, and ECS Managed Instances using awsvpc network mode. AWS states the feature is available now across all commercial ECS regions at no additional charge, with customers paying only for underlying provisioned infrastructure.
