Telcos Shift AI Strategy Toward Open Models, NVIDIA Report Finds

A new NVIDIA State of AI in Telecommunications report found 89% of respondents consider open source models important to their AI strategy, according to NVIDIA. The company positions open models as enabling cost flexibility, customization, and regulatory governance for operators. NVIDIA announced a 30-billion-parameter Nemotron 3 Large Telco Model, fine-tuned by AdaptKey on telecom datasets. SoftBank Corp. said it is using Nemotron models to develop its own telecom-specific AI. AT&T cited model-choice flexibility as central to its production AI approach. NVIDIA also released a fine-tuning recipe using NeMo libraries for operator-specific customization.
